Ingredients

  • 226 Grams Fresh Mozzarella
  • 1 Pinch Sea salt You could also use pink himalyan rock salt
  • 16 Fresh Basil leaves
  • 4 Pitted Black Olives
  • 8 Cherry Tomatoes or Grape Tomatoes
  • Balsamic Vinegar You only need a small amount for adding spots to the ladybirds.

Instructions

Prepare the Mozzarella

  • Using a sharp knife, carefully slice the mozzarella ball into approximately 1/4-inch thick slices. You should aim for 8 slices. If the slices are large, you can cut them in half to fit better on the serving platter.
  • Lay the mozzarella slices evenly on a serving platter. These will serve as the base for your ladybugs.

Add the Basil

  • Place a fresh basil leaf on top of each mozzarella slice. The basil will add a burst of fresh flavor and a pop of color beneath the ladybug.

Create the Ladybug Body

  • Cut the cherry or grape tomatoes in half lengthwise.
  • Position one half of a tomato, cut side down, on top of each basil leaf. This represents the body of the ladybug.

Make the Ladybug Head

  • Cut the pitted black olives into quarters.
  • Place one olive quarter at the top end of each tomato half to form the ladybug's head.

Add the Ladybug Spots

  • Use a small decorating tip or a toothpick for precise placement.
  • Dip the tip or toothpick into the balsamic glaze. Carefully dot the backs of the tomatoes with the glaze to create the ladybug spots.
  • Add 2-3 small spots on each tomato half to mimic the natural spots of a ladybug.
